Former Sacramento High standout and Arizona-bound guard will reportedly play right away for national prep school power in North Carolina.
The two-week ordeal of former
Sacramento High School senior basketball standout
Josiah Turner appears to be over.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the Arizona-bound guard has landed at national prep school
Quality Education Academy (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and is eligible to play right away.
The 6-foot-3 senior combo guard left the team last week on his own accord and when he tried to return was dismissed by Sacramento coach Derek Swafford for "violation of school and team rules and guidelines," he told Bee writer Joe Davison.
Turner is rated No. 30 in the MaxPrep.com's 2011 Top 100. He was averaging 22.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.9 steals per game for the Dragons, who lost in last year's CIF Northern California Division III championship game.
Turner averaged 27.9 points as a junior, was named the Sacramento Bee Player of the Year and was a key member of the Drew Gooden Soldiers, one of the premier club teams in the country. The Soldiers won the prestigious Fab 48 Tournament in Las Vegas over the summer.
Without Turner on Monday, Sacramento upset the team that ended its 2009-10 season, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland) 86-85 in double-overtime.
Aaron Cameron, a 6-1 sophomore, picked up the scoring slack with 33 points for the winners.
QEA is 17-2 and No. 16 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national rankings. The Fighting Pharoahs are scheduled to play at Our Savior New American on Saturday.
