Newark Catholic proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 23) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over the Northridge Vikings. The score was all tied up 23-23 at the break, but the Green Wave were the better team in the second half.
Sophie Chard Peloquin was her usual excellent self, going 7 of 13 to rack up 23 points along with seven boards and four blocks. That's the most blocks she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Caudill, who went 8 for 13 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Northridge still got an impressive performance from Ava Travis, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 20 points. Travis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played. Cora Hill was another key player, putting up eight points.
Newark Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Northridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Newark Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-28 loss against Granville on the 6th. As for Northridge, they have also already played their next game, a 54-41 win against Licking Heights on the 5th.
