Softball Recap: Middleton Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Middleton had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Sun Prairie West Wolves with a sharp 15-1 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Megan Button was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Danica Nolte was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Lily Kulow was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Middleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .483 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Middleton pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sun Prairie West, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
