Basketball Recap: Smith County Takes a Loss

Smith County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 84-62 to the Cannon County Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Owls of the 47-43 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Smith County's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Cannon County, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Smith County will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cannon County at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Cannon County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Smith County likes a good challenge. As for Cannon County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-60 loss against Lebanon on the 20th.
