With a playoff win on the line, Verdugo Hills rose to the challenge on Saturday. They skirted past the San Pedro Pirates 5-4. For the Dons, this counts as revenge for the 16-2 victory the Pirates walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.
Miguel Wong looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
At the plate, David Castaneda was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Hasen Macias also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Verdugo Hills and bumps their season record up to 13-16. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for San Pedro, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-15.
Coming up, Verdugo Hills will square off against Banning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pilots will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Dons surely won't give up without a fight. San Pedro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
