The Broadwater Academy Vikings just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Chincoteague Ponies at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Broadwater Academy is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
On Wednesday, Broadwater Academy took a blow against Portsmouth Christian, falling 88-19. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while the Patriots are ranked 174th).
Despite their defeat, Broadwater Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Noah Pruitt, who posted four points, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 82-50, which was the final score in Chincoteague's tilt against Arcadia on Thursday.
Broadwater Academy will have to keep a close watch on Matthew Taylor and Camaury Davis, a pair of players who had a big impact on Chincoteague's prior game. Taylor dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, while Davis earned 17 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Taylor is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game.
Broadwater Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Chincoteague, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Broadwater Academy hasn't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 8.2 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Chincoteague, though, as they've been averaging 23.6 turnovers. Given Broadwater Academy's sizable advantage in that area, Chincoteague will need to find a way to close that gap.
Broadwater Academy took a serious blow against Chincoteague in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 75-46. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Broadwater Academy was down 46-16.
