Softball Game Preview: Don Lugo Conquistadores vs. Chaffey Tigers

Don Lugo is 9-1 against Chaffey since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Conquistadores will host the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. Don Lugo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

Don Lugo took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Diamond Ranch. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Conquistadores considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Jade Curiel made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leylah Ramirez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Camila Franco was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Don Lugo lost a few balls and finished the game with six home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Chaffey couldn't beat Ontario on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Tigers fell 11-6 to the Jaguars. Surprisingly, this marked the Tigers' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Don Lugo's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Chaffey, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8-1 record this season.

Don Lugo beat Chaffey 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Conquistadores have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
