Softball Recap: Chittenango Bears vs. Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars
Chittenango extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 13-5 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 12-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Lauren Machan was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Izzy McClusky was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Carmella Furco, who went 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
As for Cicero-North Syracuse, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.
On Cicero-North Syracuse's side, Gabrielle Jaquin was excellent, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits Jaquin has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Farone, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.
As of now, neither Chittenango nor Cicero-North Syracuse have any future games scheduled.
