Basketball Game Preview: Gilpin County Eagles vs. Dawson School Mustangs

The Gilpin County Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Dawson School Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gilpin County has now lost 14 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 18.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Gilpin County took on Front Range Christian on Tuesday. The Eagles lost to the Falcons at home by a 71-52 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while the Falcons are ranked 107th).

Despite the loss, Gilpin County got top-tier performance from Taurean Paxton, who posted 20 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Marr was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, Dawson School played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 67-33 loss at the hands of Flatirons Academy. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Bison: they've now lost five in a row.

Dawson School's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Gilpin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.

Gilpin County suffered a grim 49-25 defeat to Dawson School when the teams last played back in February of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
