Preview: Norfolk Panthers vs. Grand Island Islanders
Norfolk has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Grand Island Islanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Norfolk suffered their biggest loss since December 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 73-52 defeat at the hands of Lincoln Northeast. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Norfolk has suffered against Lincoln Northeast since February 19, 2016.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tasha Eisenhauer, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Russell Aubrey, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Grand Island, who are still winless after their 11th game. They had to suffer through a rough 72-12 loss at the hands of Pius X. Grand Island was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-9.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Grand Island struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pius X posted 16 assists.
Norfolk dropped their record down to 4-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Grand Island, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
Norfolk strolled past Grand Island in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 56-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Norfolk since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
