Football Game Preview: Rock Port Blue Jays vs. DeKalb Tigers

Rock Port has gone 8-1 against DeKalb recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Blue Jays will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rock Port has five straight wins, DeKalb has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Rock Port's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Stewartsville, posting a 76-0 victory. Considering the Blue Jays have won four games by more than 53 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brock Holmes was his usual excellent self, rushing for 122 yards and four scores on only nine carries. Holmes is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 122 every time he's taken the field this season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Rock Port was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 226 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Rock Port didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ryder Herron, Case Millsap, and Jack Meyerkorth picked up one apiece. Herron got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, DeKalb scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Holt.

DeKalb's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Rock Port, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything came up roses for Rock Port against DeKalb in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 54-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Jays since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
