Basketball Recap: Abilene's Undefeated Season over After Four Games

If Abilene was feeling good fresh off their 83-49 takedown of Munday on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles lost to the Richland Royals on the road by a 59-42 margin on Thursday. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Royals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Richland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamari Friend led the charge by shooting 58% from the field en route to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kole Dortch, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Abilene fell to 3-1. As for Richland, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Abilene has already played their next matchup, a 52-36 defeat against Azle on the 21st. As for Richland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-43 victory against Haltom on the 21st.
