Basketball Recap: Alvin Yellowjackets vs. Dawson Eagles

The Alvin Yellowjackets struggled with assists on Friday (the Dawson Eagles had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Alvin was dealt a 74-38 loss at the hands of the Eagles. While losing is never fun, Alvin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 802nd, while the Eagles are ranked 51st).

When it comes to explaining why Alvin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trey Falcon. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points.

Leading Dawson to victory were Bryce Davis and Maleek Sim?us. Davis went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 2 assists, while Sim?us scored 19 points along with six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Anderson, who scored eight points.

Alvin has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Dawson, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alvin will square off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Alief Taylor focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. As for Dawson, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Alief Hastings: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while the Eagles have snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
