Preview: Parkland Matadors vs. Horizon Scorpions

Parkland has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Horizon Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Parkland suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Hanks, falling 69-23. While losing is never fun, Parkland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1360th, while Hanks is ranked 416th).

Daisy Nunez was Parkland's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Rachael Silva held things down on the boards with four rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with five assists.

Meanwhile, Horizon's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were dealt a 50-23 loss at the hands of Bel Air. Horizon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-6.

Parkland has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Horizon, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-18.

Parkland strolled past Horizon when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 44-29. Does Parkland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Horizon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
