Softball Recap: Apollo Eagles vs. Bowling Green Purples
It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Apollo ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Bowling Green Purples.
Mollie Julian spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Arianna Ramirez was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Stallings, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Apollo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-13-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Bowling Green, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-14-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apollo will challenge South Spencer at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bowling Green, they will take on Breckinridge County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.68 runs per game on average), something the Purples will no doubt try to take advantage of.
