Recap: Newcomb Skyhawks vs. Rock Point Cougars
The Newcomb Skyhawks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They secured a 66-61 W over Rock Point. The win made it back-to-back wins for Newcomb.
Newcomb was led to victory by Lethia Yazzie and Jazlyn Begay. Yazzie scored 20 points along with five steals, while Begay scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Miller, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Newcomb's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5. As for Rock Point, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newcomb will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Navajo Pine at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. As for Rock Point, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Fredonia at 3:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Fredonia is ranked 159th, while Rock Point is ranked 170th).
