Baseball Recap: Doherty Memorial's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After losing to Northbridge the last time they met, Doherty Memorial decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Highlanders were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Rams on Tuesday.

Harper Cross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Doherty Memorial is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mikey O'Connell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Chase Rich was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Doherty Memorial's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. As for Northbridge, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.

Coming up, Doherty Memorial will take on Tantasqua Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northbridge, they will square off against Nipmuc Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
