Basketball Recap: Smoky Valley Takes a Loss

Smoky Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-31 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hoisington Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-33 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Smoky Valley lost, don't look at Ty Heitschmidt. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Heitschmidt is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game.

Hoisington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Martin led the charge by putting up 12 points and four steals. Marcus Ingram was another key player, scoring 11 points.

Smoky Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Hoisington, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smoky Valley will host Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hoisington, they will be playing at home against Ellinwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ellinwood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season.
