Volleyball Recap: Smithton Tigers vs. Sacred Heart Gremlins
After flying high against Otterville on Tuesday, Smithton came back down to earth. The Tigers came up short against the Sacred Heart Gremlins on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gremlins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Smithton was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Sacred Heart work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-14, 25-21.
Drew Bray paced Smithton's offense, picking up eight kills. Bray got some help from Carolina Houston and her ten assists. Houston was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
Leading Sacred Heart to victory were Ava Judd and Sophie Hesse. Judd had ten digs, two blocks, and two aces, while Hesse had 22 digs. Those 22 digs gave Hesse a new career-high.
Smithton's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Sacred Heart, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.
