Basketball Game Preview: Gibson Southern Titans vs. Lawrence North Wildcats

Two dominant guards in Gabby Spink and Kya Hurt are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Gibson Southern Titans will take on the Lawrence North Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gibson Southern comes in on five and Lawrence North on six.

Gibson Southern is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Floyd Central by a score of 50-39.

Gibson Southern can attribute much of their success to Spink, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and ten boards, and Paige Schnaus, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Schnaus is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Lawrence North didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Pendleton Heights on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win.

Gibson Southern better focus on containing Keadriah Butler and Hurt as the pair were huge in Lawrence North's win. Butler went 6-for-13 en route to 20 points and six rebounds, while Hurt went 6-for-11 to rack up 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Naja Winston, who posted seven points and three steals.

Gibson Southern's victory bumped their record up to 21-6. As for Lawrence North, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.

Gibson Southern couldn't quite finish off Lawrence North in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 66-63. Can Gibson Southern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
