League recap: Palo Verde tops Amphitheater to extend winning streak

Palo Verde added to the longest winning streak in IV Section II this week by beating Amphitheater, 32-23. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Safford led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Rio Rico.

Milo Fragoso was the best wideout in the league this week as Sahuarita lost to Catalina Foothills. Fragoso racked up 6 receptions for 83 yards.

Sean Fanning threw for 87 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 5-11 with 1 interception.

Fanning put up the best numbers through the air as the Hawks lost to the Bulldogs. Fanning's favorite target this week was Dan Gastellum, who caught 3 passes for 64 yards.

Dante Anderson was the best running back in IV Section II this week. He ran for 136 yards on 8 carries as the Panthers lost to the Falcons. Teammate Tony Villa added to the ground attack by rushing for 44 yards.

Ray Holbrook provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Amphitheater lost to Palo Verde. He completed 21 passes for 199 yards and also ran for 1 yards. Holbrook's favorite target this week was Jeremy Ford, who caught 3 passes for 53 yards.

Sahuarita's Rocko Vega and Fragoso have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Vega has thrown for 521 yards this season, while Fragoso, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 27 catches for 468 yards. Villa from Brandon Willard's team leads the league in rushing with 549 yards.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when David Rodriguez's team takes on Safford. The Mustangs' offense has recorded 127 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Michael Alba's team has permitted only 63 on the year.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Rio Rico takes on Santa Rita. Kevin Kuhm's team is currently in fourth, while the Eagles are in second.

The Bulldogs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,738 from 7,734. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 48-21 victory over the Hawks last week.
