Baseball Game Preview: Wakefield Wolverines vs. Athens Drive Jaguars

The Wakefield Wolverines will take on the Athens Drive Jaguars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wakefield will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Wakefield's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Franklinton 8-0. Considering the Wolverines have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Blake Waltman looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mikey Katz, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Eli Gross was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Athens Drive unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 7-3 to Jordan. The game marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Athens Drive saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anderson Hanes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Wakefield pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Athens Drive, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Wakefield beat Athens Drive 6-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Wakefield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Athens Drive turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
