Softball Recap: Concord Christian Takes a Loss

Concord Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the First Baptist Academy Eagles. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 7-6 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Baylee Johnson spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Elizabeth Reed and Cortlyn Hedger did some serious damage despite the final result: Reed scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Hedger scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kensley Jennings, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Concord Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for First Baptist Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Concord Christian is set to challenge their familiar foe Grace Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, First Baptist Academy will take on rival Christian Academy of Knoxville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
