Soccer Game Preview: Phoebus vs. Woodside

Phoebus hasn't had much luck against Woodside recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Phantoms will welcome the Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Phoebus' win against Heritage wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Phantoms narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hurricanes 2-1. The win continues a trend for Phoebus in their matchups with Heritage: they've now won seven in a row.

Naeem Mensah and Sammy Knight scored both of Phoebus' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Meanwhile, Woodside's game on Thursday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Denbigh by a score of 3-1. Given Woodside's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Denbigh are ranked 233rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Woodside's victory bumped their record up to 9-5-1. As for Phoebus, their win bumped their record up to 5-12.

Phoebus might still be hurting after the 6-1 defeat they got from Woodside in their previous meeting back in April. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Phantoms were down 5-0.
