Softball Recap: Leopold Comes Up Short

If Leopold was feeling good fresh off their 25-3 takedown of Meadow Heights last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Leopold fell just short of Bloomfield by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. Leopold was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Bloomfield apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Piper Lincoln was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Lincoln was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Malia VanderMierden was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. VanderMierden is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Ava Jansen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Leopold's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Bloomfield, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Leopold will take on Puxico at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bloomfield, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Bloomfield Wildcats challenge Delta Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
