Softball Game Preview: Oxford Hornets vs. East Vikings

Oxford hasn't had much luck against East recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Vikings at 3:45 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Oxford is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Sun Valley. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by just one run.

Alexa Keenan was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Helen Jackson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, East unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Downingtown West. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

East saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Jones, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for East, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Oxford couldn't quite get it done against East in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
