Softball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder
Cheyenne Mountain waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Discovery Canyon Thunder as they made off with a 15-8 victory. Considering the Red-Tailed Hawks have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Danica Unger made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Unger was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Corrine Harlow was incredible, going 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and a triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August of 2023. Rylie Hanna was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, a triple, and an RBI.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Cheyenne Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Cheyenne Mountain has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Discovery Canyon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.
Cheyenne Mountain will head out to square off against Palmer Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Discovery Canyon, they will host La Junta at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
