Basketball Recap: Tatum Comes Up Short

Tatum was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost to the Jal Panthers on the road by a 51-35 margin. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 65-36 defeat back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Tatum lost, don't look at Anthony Montez. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Montez a new career-high in blocks (three).

Nolbert Cervantes was his usual excellent self, going 5-for-11 to rack up 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals for Jal. The matchup was Cervantes' ninth in a row with at least 17 points. Sebastian Arroyo was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Tatum's record now sits at 5-17. As for Jal, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.

Tatum has already played their next contest, a 68-37 loss against Hagerman on the 11th. As for Jal, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-36 victory against Loving on the 11th.
