Game recap: Tampa Catholic High School Football Team wins against Fort Meade

FORT MEADE, Fla. - After two lead changes, Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Fla.) took the lead for good when TJ Harrell ran for a touchdown with 2:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat Fort Meade (Fla.) 24-23 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a field goal by Jack Cortez, the Miners went into halftime with a 10-7 lead. The Crusaders scored the winning points with a Harrell touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring seven points in the third, Tampa Catholic still trailed by 3 points going into the fourth quarter. But 10 points in the fourth helped TC pull out the victory.

The Tampa school's standout player in the win was Justin Vertino. The junior ran for one touchdown.



DeVante Clark played well for Fort Meade. The senior running back caught two touchdowns.

The victory was a step in the right direction for the Crusaders, which was coming off a 17-3 defeat at the hands of Jesuit in its previous game. The loss snapped FM's 2-game winning streak.
