Baseball Game Preview: Cardinal Huskies vs. Lakeside Dragons

The Cardinal Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Lakeside Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cardinal has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 17.

Cardinal lost 11-1 to Berkshire on Wednesday.

Cardinal saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakeside). They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Conneaut last Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dragons.

Anthony Wooten was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Lakeside: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Matt Wagner was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Jackson Stills also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Lakeside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Cardinal's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Lakeside, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-9.

Cardinal beat Lakeside 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
