Baseball Game Preview: Oxford Hornets vs. Sun Valley Vanguards

The Oxford Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Sun Valley Vanguards at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Oxford beat Faith Christian Academy 6-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sun Valley). They blew past Interboro 11-0 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Vanguards in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won three in a row.

Jackson Messick was incredible, firing off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-4. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Ryan Messick also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Sun Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sun Valley picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-13. As for Oxford, their record now sits at 6-10.

Oxford came out on top in a nail-biter against Sun Valley when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
