Football Recap: Father Lopez Piles Up the Points Against Trinity Prep

There's no place like home for Father Lopez, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 48-14 win over the Trinity Prep Saints. With that victory, the Green Wave brought their scoring average up to 29 points per game.

It was another big night for Rylan Demarsh, who rushed for 71 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Those 71 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Ethan Jiloty got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Father Lopez proved: they limited Trinity Prep to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. While four picked up at least two total tackles, Demarsh stood above the rest. He rushed for 71 yards and one score on only five carries. Father Lopez didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.4.

Father Lopez didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of James Roberson and Carter Ramey. Roberson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the defeat, Trinity Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josh Shaw picked up 127 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries. Shaw's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards.

Father Lopez pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.7 points over those games. As for Trinity Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Father Lopez will take on Crescent City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Green Wave will be up against the Raiders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.8 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Trinity Prep, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cornerstone Charter Academy at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
