Basketball Recap: Leggett Pirates vs. Pineywoods Community Academy Timberwolves
Leggett couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 60-27 loss at the hands of the Pineywoods Community Academy Timberwolves. The Pirates lost against the Timberwolves in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 36-26 score last time.
Despite the loss, Leggett still got an impressive performance from Jace Railey, who went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points. Eligha Sanders was another key player, scoring three points plus six rebounds.
Pineywoods Community Academy found their leader in sophomore Gunner Carnes, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The contest was Carnes' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Timothy Jones, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leggett will take on Kennard at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pineywoods Community Academy, they will welcome Hudson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
