Baseball Recap: Ventura Snags 12th Win in Last 13 Games

Ventura barely beat Rio Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Spartans 11-1 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Caleb Sebek made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijah Burt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Wylan Nelson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Ventura kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.

Ventura is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Rio Mesa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-18-1.

Ventura wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 win against Dos Pueblos on the 29th. As for Rio Mesa, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-0 victory against St. Bonaventure on the 26th.
