Basketball Recap: Sara Kate Carr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wesleyan Christian Academy over Cannon

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wesleyan Christian Academy can now relate to. They lost to the Cannon Cougars on the road by a 71-55 margin on Saturday. The Trojans have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Wesleyan Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sara Kate Carr, who went 7-for-10 en route to 17 points. What's more, she also posted a 70% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Blythe Cunningham, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 11 points and six boards.

Cannon found their leader in sophomore Madison Drayton, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Drayton is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Jakaila Gaskin was another key player, going 8-for-10 on her way to 16 points and eight boards.

Wesleyan Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 25-7. As for Cannon, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 26-7.

As of now, neither Wesleyan Christian Academy nor Cannon have any future games scheduled.
