Baseball Recap: Salem Triumphs

Salem let Mountain View stack six runs on them in the third inning on Thursday but luckily Salem prevailed anyway. The Greyhounds had just enough and edged out the Yellowjackets 12-11. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 15-5 victory back in March.

Salem got a great performance from Peyton Holder as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Holder has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aiden Province and Ethan Birmingham did most of the damage at the plate: Province got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Birmingham got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Birmingham has become a key player for Salem: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Peyton Franks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Salem and bumps their season record up to 10-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Salem is taking a road trip to take on Bergman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mountain View has already played their next game (against Riverview), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
