Basketball Recap: Jennings County Comes Up Short

Jennings County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 67-65 heartbreaker at the hands of the Whiteland Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 72-68 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Jennings County still got an impressive performance from Carter Kent, who almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. The game was Kent's third in a row with at least 25 points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Davis, who en route to 17 points.

Whiteland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gavin Stubbe out in front who to rack up 17 points. Stubbe is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last eight games he's played. Ethan Edwards was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Jennings County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Whiteland, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season.

Jennings County and Whiteland should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Jennings County will square off against Scottsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 130 places (109 vs. 239). Similarly, Whiteland (ranked 85th) will meet Beech Grove (ranked 210th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
