Baseball Game Preview: Galena Bears vs. Spokane Owls

Galena has gone 6-1 against Spokane recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bears will head out on the road to take on the Owls at 5:00 p.m. Galena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.

Galena came out on top against Walnut Grove on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. The Bears put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-0 win. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Wyatt Doak made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Doak was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cody Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Galena is 5-1 when Jones posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Jaxon Foster was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Galena hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Spokane was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost 6-0 to Central. The game marked the first time this year in which the Owls were not able to get on the board.

Galena pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Spokane, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Galena took their win against Spokane when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
