Softball Game Preview: Plant Panthers vs. Gaither Cowboys

The Plant Panthers will challenge the Gaither Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Plant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Plant fell victim to Steinbrenner and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Gigi Cozzens was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gaither ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past Durant 3-2.

Kacey Wilkes spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Riley Russell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Plant's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Gaither, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-8.

Plant came out on top in a nail-biter against Gaither in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
