Preview: Ithaca Yellowjackets vs. Ubly Bearcats
The Ithaca Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Ubly Bearcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Ithaca sitting on 11 straight wins and Ubly on 25 (dating back to last season).
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ithaca had no problem doing just that on Friday. They won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by New Lothrop 29-28. That's two games straight that Ithaca has won by exactly a single point.
Ithaca's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jackson Conn led the charge by throwing for 248 yards and four touchdowns. Owen Mikulka also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Ubly can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Harbor Beach with a sharp 35-14 win. Given Ubly's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Harbor Beach is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ithaca pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Ubly, their win bumped their record up to an identical 11-0.
