Basketball Game Preview: Winn Mavericks vs. Southwest Dragons

Winn is on a four-game streak of home losses, Southwest a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Winn Mavericks will welcome the Southwest Dragons at 6:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Winn was beaten by McCollum 63-29. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1215th, while the Cowboys are ranked 70th).

Meanwhile, Southwest came into Friday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Harlandale with a 59-55 victory on Friday.

Southwest found their leader in sophomore Loren Anguiano, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anguiano has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julionne Harper, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds.

Southwest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Southwest's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-15. As for Winn, their loss dropped their record down to 4-18.
