Football Recap: Mckinney Christian Academy Starts Season with Victory at Home

McKinney Christian Academy gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Founders Classical Academy Eagles 56-25. The Mustangs pushed the score to 42-13 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had little chance of recovering from.

McKinney Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Angel Rivera, who rushed for 86 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Cody Dow, who rushed for 27 yards and two scores.

McKinney Christian Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chase Bruegel and Dusty Thibodeaux. McKinney Christian Academy received some extra help from Jackson Wittwer, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for McKinney Christian Academy, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Luke Dreffs, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Founders Classical Academy still got an impressive performance from Patrick Harris, who rushed for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries.

McKinney Christian Academy has already played their next matchup, a 21-14 win against Coram Deo Academy on the 5th. As for Founders Classical Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 40-18 loss against Bishop Gorman on the 5th.
