Recap: Seffner Christian Crusaders vs. Downey Christian Patriots
The Seffner Christian Crusaders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 67-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Downey Christian. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Cameron Knox and Vernon Lee jr certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Knox scored 20 points, while Lee jr scored 26 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Lee jr's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tauro Jenkins, who scored five points.
Downey Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Fernando Salvadores, who scored 24 points along with nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for him. Patrick Olajuwon was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on 20 points, 14 rebounds, and nine blocks.
Seffner Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Downey Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Seffner Christian and Bayshore Christian will face off at 3:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bayshore Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 611th, while Seffner Christian is ranked 176th). As for Downey Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Varsity Opponent is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses.
