Basketball Recap: El Dorado Aztecs vs. Del Valle Conquistadores

El Dorado lost against Del Valle back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The El Dorado Aztecs were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to the Del Valle Conquistadores.

Despite the defeat, El Dorado saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacob Villalobos went 5 for 12 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Velasquez, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points.

Del Valle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Nunez led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. That's the most points Nunez has posted since back in January of 2024. Jayden Nunez was another key player, going 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points.

El Dorado's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-12. As for Del Valle, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Americas the next time they take the court. Del Valle will host Americas at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while El Dorado will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
