Football Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Roane County Raiders
Independence and Roane County squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Independence had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 42-7 loss at the hands of the Roane County Raiders. The Patriots were red-hot offensively headed into the contest (they scored no less than 31 points in the three games prior) but the Raiders' defense proved too tough.
Lane Watson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 239 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per carry for Roane County. Watson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Clay Walker was another key back, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Independence's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. As for Roane County, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0.
Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Roane County, they will head out to square off against Frankfort at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Frankfort: 6.7, Roane County: 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
