Softball Recap: Fitch Takes Down Ranked East Haven

Fitch faced East Haven in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 11-0 win. This was payback for the Falcons, who suffered an 11-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

The result came thanks to Hailey Merrill's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits.

On the hitting side, Katie MacPherson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Steffens, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

The victory got Fitch back to even at 3-3. As for East Haven, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Coming up, Fitch will venture away from home to face off against Westerly at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for East Haven, they will host Branford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
