Softball Recap: East Mecklenburg Beats Butler for Their Fifth Straight Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but East Mecklenburg ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Butler Bulldogs 7-6. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won five matchups in a row.

Geneva Garvais made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple.

In other batting news, Zya Dunlap was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Jahslyn Pruitt, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

East Mecklenburg's record now sits at 10-8. As for Butler, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

East Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 8-3 defeat against Sun Valley on the 7th. As for Butler, they will challenge Charlotte Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
