Football Game Preview: Capital Cougars vs. Gig Harbor Tides

The Capital Cougars will be playing at home against the Gig Harbor Tides at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Capital had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least 31 points, but Lakes put an end to it on Friday. The Cougars were outmatched by the Lancers and fell 47-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Lancers: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Gig Harbor made easy work of Bellarmine Prep on Friday and carried off a 42-20 win. Considering the Tides have won three games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Gig Harbor's win came from a few key players Capital will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ian Shearer, who rushed for 73 yards and two scores. Those two rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Salvador Isaiah Nuuhiwa Alob, who threw for 90 yards and a pair of TDs on only six passes.

Gig Harbor was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 330 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Gig Harbor has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.5 points over those games. As for Capital, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Capital came out on top in a nail-biter against Gig Harbor in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, sneaking past 15-13. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Tides have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
