Baseball Recap: Rusk Triumphs

Rusk hadn't done well against Canton recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Rusk walked away with a 6-2 win over Canton. This was payback for Rusk, who suffered a 2-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Trendon Bonin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Jermicheal Sturns and Kade Blankenship did most of the damage at the plate: Sturns scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Blankenship scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Sturns also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Carter Holland was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Rusk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Rusk's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Canton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.

Coming up, Rusk will be playing at home against Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palestine's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Rusk's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Canton, they are taking a road trip to face off against Kemp at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canton is facing Kemp at the right time seeing as Kemp is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
