Football Game Preview: Highlands Owls vs. Lanier Voks

The Highlands Owls will square off against the Lanier Voks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highlands will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Highlands is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 65-6 victory over Edison. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-6.

Highlands' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devante Riley, who rushed for 81 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, and also picked up 36 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Jovan Flemings, who rushed for 74 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Highlands was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jermiah McKane, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lanier, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 21-13 victory over Jefferson on Thursday.

Highlands' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Lanier, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
